The First "Forum on China-Africa Cooperation- Legal Forum"

“Strengthening China-Africa Legal Exchanges and Promoting All-round Development of China-Africa Relations”

The first “Forum on China-Africa Cooperation – Legal Forum” , which is jointly initiated by the Cairo Regional Center for International Commercial Arbitration and the China Law Society, will be held in Cairo, Egypt, on 20-21 December 2009, with the purpose of actively and promptly implementing the “Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Sharm El Sheikh Action Plan (2010-2012)” (section 2.4.3).

Participants mainly include: lawyers, judges, members of African investment agencies, members of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as well as government officials, representatives of NGOs and scholars from Egypt, China, South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Morocco, the Sudan and Kenya. The following African organizations have already confirmed their participation: African Union, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, League of Arab States as well as the Arabic League of International Arbitration. Representatives from Arabic countries outside Africa, such as Syria, Jordan and Iraq, will participate in the Forum as observers.

The first “Forum on China-Africa Cooperation - Legal Forum” is intended to build a dialogue mechanism for strengthening China-Africa legal exchanges and to promote the all-round development of China-Africa cooperation in various fields. Key topics are as follows:

1. Important role of law in China-Africa cooperation;

2、introduction of legal systems in China and African countries;

3、impact of various legal systems on China-Africa trade and investment relations;

4、dispute resolution mechanisms in trade and investment between China and African countries – initial studies on optimal means balancing the China-Africa trade and investment relations.

Interested journalists and other media representatives are warmly welcome.
