Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Remarks on the US House Speaker Pelosi's Meeting with Dalai

2008-03-24

Q: Recently, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi met with Dalai in India and urged the international community to exert pressure on China over the Tibet issue to ensure all moral authority. How do you comment on that?

A: Dalai is the ruler of the theocratic and feudalist serfdom system in the old Tibet. He is a political exile bent on engaging in activities aimed at splitting the motherland and undermining national unity. Encouraging and supporting the attempt of the Dalai Clique to separate China is a violation of the fundamental norms governing international relations and couldn't take up the moral high ground at all. We express our resolute opposition.

Since the government of the Tibet Autonomous Region took lawful measures to deal with the serious criminal act of violence in Lhasa, governments of about 100 countries have noted to China or publicly stated their support for China's lawful actions to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability in Tibet, and condemn the criminal act of violence and those behind. It is sufficient to prove that the international community stands by China. Justice will prevail. Some people's attempts to use Dalai to reach their ulterior motives will get nowhere.
