Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Anti-China Resolution on Tibet by the US House of Representatives

2008-04-14

On April 9, 2008, regardless of China's solemn position, the US House of Representatives insisted on deliberating and adopting an anti-China resolution proposed by House Speaker Pelosi. This resolution blatantly distorts the history and reality of Tibet, makes unreasonable accusations against the handling of the serious violent criminal act in the Lhasa incident in accordance with law by the Government of China's Tibet Autonomous Region, grossly intervenes in China's domestic affairs, and severely hurts the feelings of the Chinese people. China expresses strong indignation and firm opposition to that.

Tibet is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Tibetan affairs are totally China's domestic affairs. There is sufficient evidence that the Lhasa incident is organized and premeditated by the Dalai Clique and colluded by the Tibetan separatist forces, both in China and overseas. What happened in Lhasa were by no means "peaceful demonstration" and "nonviolent" activities as claimed by the Dalai Clique. They were serious crimes of violence. Some representatives of the US House pointed their fingers at the Chinese Government and people instead of condemning the rioters engaged in the activities involving beating, smashing up properties, looting and arson, and the Dalai Clique which is behind the scene to incite and organize the crimes. This is completely misleading and out of ulterior motives.

We solemnly urge the above-mentioned representatives of the US Congress, the more you harbor the Dalai Clique, and disturb the preparation of the Beijing Olympic Games, the more exposed the true nature of the Dalai Clique, and the firmer the resolve of the Chinese people to safeguard social stability and national unity and hold a successful Beijing Olympic Games. The progress of the Chinese people cannot be stopped by anyone.

We request the US Congress to recognize the true nature of Dalai, who is engaged in separatist activities under the pretext of religion, and that of the Dalai Clique under the mask of the rhetoric of dialogue and peace, to stage real conflict and violence. The US Congress must respect fact, make a clear distinction between the right and wrong, and stop immediately its erroneous words and deeds that interfere with China's domestic affairs, hurt the feelings of the Chinese people and harm the China-U.S. relations.
