Delegation of State Ethnic Affairs Committee Visits Mauritius

At the invitation of the Mauritian ministry of education, culture, and human resources, a five-member delegation of the state ethnic affairs committee headed by its vice-chairman Danzhu Angben visited Mauritius from August 11th to 13th, 2009.

 

On the afternoon of the 11th, Mauritian Minister of Education, Culture, and Human Resources   Vasant Kumar Bunwaree met with the delegation, and the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius Bian Yanhua and cultural counsellor Wang Yongjian were present. Minister Bunwaree extended warm welcome to the Chinese delegation to Mauritius, and gave a briefing about Mauritius' cultural and ethnic policies. Vice-Chairman Danzhu Angben said that both China and Mauritius are developing countries, hoping that the two sides can strengthen exchanges in the protection of cultural diversity.

 

On the afternoon of the same day, the delegation also met with Minister of Consumer Protection and Citizens' Rights Sylvio Hock Sheen Tang Wah Hing, the only Chinese minister in Mauritius. On the afternoon of the 12th, the delegation went to have a discussion with the Chinese association in Mauritius, learning about their life and work as an ethnic group in the country. The delegation also visited the Chinese Cultural Center and watched the teaching in the classes of martial arts and dancing. In the evening, the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius Bian Yanhua met with and hosted a banquet for the delegation.
