Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf met today with the Chinese Henan Provincial government delegation headed by its Deputy Governor Qin Yuhai. Chinese Charge d'affaires Gou Haodong, Liberian minister for presidential affairs, and vice-minister of foreign affairs were present.
President Sirleaf began by thanking the Chinese government for its tremendous help to Liberia in the four strategic areas of poverty alleviation, saying that Liberia is willing to carry out cooperation with Henan and other Chinese provinces and municipalities in all fields. She expressed satisfaction over the involvement in the engineering contract and iron-ore exploration by the China Henan International Cooperation Group Co., Ltd (CHICO), hoping that Henan can display its advantage as a big agricultural province to further strengthen investment in the Liberian agricultural field to help improve its capability to cope with food crisis.
Deputy Governor Qin thanked President Sirleaf and the Liberian government for their consistent support to Henan companies in Liberia, reaffirming that the Henan government will continue to encourage competitive enterprises of Henan to come to Liberia for diversified economic and trade cooperation in engineering contract, mining, and agricultural development.
From August 8th to 10th, the delegation went to visit CHICO's department responsible for the construction of roads in Liberia, and held talks on bilateral cooperation respectively with Liberian ministers of mines and energy, public works, and agriculture.
