Seychellois president seeking business opportunitiesin central China

2006-11-06

Visiting Seychellois President James Alix Michel Monday visited central China's Hunan Province to seek more economic cooperation opportunities with China.

The president arrived in China on Nov. 1 to pay a state visit and attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which concluded here on Sunday.

During a meeting with Acting Governor of Hunan Province Zhou Qiang, Michel expressed the hope to get more information about the province to promote cooperation and invited enterprises in the province to invest in Seychelles. He proposed to open tourist flight between Hunan and Seychelles.

Zhou briefed the president on the economic and social situation of Hunan, hometown of the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong. He said that there exist great cooperation potentials in the fields of tourism, agriculture, trade and engineering.

The president will fly to Haikou, capital of China's southernmost Hainan Province, later on Monday.

Seychelles is one of China's government-approved outbound tourist destinations. Bilateral trade has been growing rapidly, with trade volume totaling to 3.41 million U.S. dollars in 2005.
