  【Official Name】The Republic of Angola

  【Area】1.2467 million k㎡

  【Population】24.3 million (2014) composed of Ovimbundu (about 37% of the population), Ambundu (25%), Bakongo (13%), Lunda and other ethnic groups. Average population density is 16 persons/ km2. Capital Luanda is the most densely populated city and Cabinda is least populated. Portuguese is the official language. Umbundu (central and southern regions), Kimbundu (Luanda and inland regions) and Kikongo (northern parts) are the most widely spoken among the 42 indigenous languages. 49% of the population are Catholic, 13% are Protestant, and the remaining population practice indigenous religions.

  【Geography and Climate】Angola locates in southwest Africa. It is bordered by the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Zambia to the east, Namibia to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, with a coastline of 1,650km. Most northern regions have a tropical savanna climate, the southern parts have a subtropical climate and the high elevation areashave a temperate climate. October to the next April is the rainy season with an average temperature of 33℃, and May to September is the dry season with an average temperature of 24℃. Annual rainfall is about 400mm. Precipitation decreases from northeastern highland (1,500mm) to the desserts in the southwest (50 mm). The country covers diverse terrains of mountains, plateau and plains, that extends from eastern highland to the western coastal regions. 65% of the country is 1,000 to 1,600 meters above sea level. Thehighest pointsare Mount Moca (2,620 m) and Monte Meco (2,583 m). Angola has rich water resources with around 30 large rivers, including the Congo River, Cunene River, Cuanza River and Cubango River.
