100 Rwandans to train in China
 (2013-03-20)

About 100 Rwandans will this year get various sponsorships from the Chinese government to go for training in different fields in China, according the country's envoy to Rwanda.

Shu Zhan said this at a get-together reception for Rwandan officials who have recently received training in China at the Chinese Embassy in Kigali on Thursday.

"For the last two years I have been in Rwanda, about 240 Rwandans, especially staff from government and private institutions, have received training in China under the sponsorship of the Chinese government," he said.

Zhan said the officials go to China for weeks, months and even a year to share experiences and know-how with the Chinese on various sectors.

"This was an opportunity for them to know each other and share their experiences while in China," he said, adding that the Chinese embassy offers training opportunities to Rwandans in different fields that are in line with Rwanda's development agenda.

China's cooperation with Rwanda has continuously grown stronger and is likely to increase in the future, according to officials.

Beneficiaries speak

Beijing currently supports Rwanda in infrastructure, health, agriculture, ICT and education sectors.

Yohana Makombe, the executive secretary of Eastern Province and one of the beneficiaries of Chinese training, said he received public administration skills, which helps him to manage his duties.

"I was in China for one month and during that period I met people from various countries and we shared skills and experiences," he said.

Innocent Rutayisire, the director of vocational training programme at Rwanda Tourism University College (RTUC), said his training focused on catering development and management.

"I received skills on how to streamline catering course at RTUC and it's the same knowledge we are using to train our catering management students," he said.
