On September 6, 2020, Ma Xinmin, Chinese Ambassador to Sudan, met with Sharif, the new Undersecretary of Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They exchanged views on China-Sudan relations, cooperation against COVID-19 and international and regional international hotspot issues.
Ma congratulated Sharif on his appointment, and said that with a profound traditional friendship, China and Sudan have always looked out for each other in trying times and given each other understanding and support for issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns, over the past 61 years since the establishment of the diplomatic ties. This year, China-Sudan strategic partnership has stood the test of the coronavirus, with our cooperation in epidemic response achieving positive results. The relationship between the two countries and the friendship between their peoples are therefore enhanced. He pledged that as the epidemic situation is still severe in Sudan, China is ready to do whatever it can to continue supporting Sudan’s fight against the virus and to help it prevail over the crisis at an early date. China would like to avail this opportunity to work together with the Sudanese side to carry forward and foster China-Sudan friendship and bring their strategic partnership to a higher level.
Sharif thanked Ma for his congratulation, and remarked that China is a great country and he himself always admires its extensive and profound traditional culture. Sudan takes China as its most important strategic partner and has seen its friendly ties with China deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, he underscored, adding that cooperation between the two countries has extended into many fields, including economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, and more importantly, been demonstrated on international and regional occasions, such as in the UN Security Council and in the African Union. After the COVID-19 epidemic broke out this year, Sudan and China have fought shoulder to shoulder to contain the virus, creating a new highlight in their bilateral relations. Sudan appreciates the valuable support from China for its anti-epidemic battle and is confident of an early victory with the assistance and support provided by China. The Sudanese side is ready to build on the existing foundation to expand its all-round cooperation with China on various fronts and to get national economy and social life return to normal as early as possible.
