On September 6th, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Lin Songtian held at the ambassador's residence a mobilization meeting on "Overseas Chinese citizens fostering a civilized image", briefing on the current domestic situation and China-Malawi relations, encouraging Chinese citizens in Malawi to foster a civilized image. Over 60 people including those from Chinese companies and medical team, Chinese community in Malawi, representatives of Taiwan compatriots, deputy ambassador Zhou Haihong, and commercial counselor Sun Yehong were present.

Ambassador Lin gave a brief account on the relationship between China and the world today, and reviewed the mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Malawi since the two established diplomatic ties, elaborating the opportunities and challenges of bilateral relations. He talked about the consecutive negative reports by local media on the illegal behaviors of three Chinese citizens, encouraging them to exercise self discipline from now on, and work together to create a sound cooperation environment for China-Malawi mutual benefit and common development, and to foster a social atmosphere friendly towards China.

To this end, Ambassador Lin required: first, the embassy and the Chinese citizens work together to foster a friendly social atmosphere, with each one doing his best and playing his role; second, following the principle of mutual benefit, win-win cooperation and common development, and opposing short-sighted behaviors only for profits; third, exercising self-discipline and mutual supervision, opposing adventurism and behaviors against law and regulation; fourth, carrying forward the fine tradition and virtue of the Chinese culture, and opposing any behavior damaging the reputation of the country and personal integrity.

Ambassador Lin reminded the Chinese citizens and businessmen to keep alert to avoid unnecessary physical and financial damage.
