Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, met on 15th with Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo who is in China on a four-day state visit. Wu said Sino-Nigerian relations have developed rapidly in the new century, and their cooperation in the political, economic, trade and cultural fields has deepened. Wu expressed appreciation for the efforts Obasanjo has made to further the relationship with China. He said China and Nigeria are complementary in trade and economy, and have great potentials on cooperation in these regard. China hopes to further exchanges with Nigeria in telecommunication, water conservancy and agriculture, he said. The top Chinese legislator said the NPC would like to work with the parliament of Nigeria to push forward the relationship between the two countries. Obasanjo said Nigeria-China relations have grown over the past few years, and that Nigeria hopes to build up the long-term strategic partnership with China.
