On September 20, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with Djiboutian Premier Dileita Mohanmed Dileita in the Great Hall of the People. Both sides exchanged views on further developing bilateral friendly cooperative relations. Wu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1979, the friendly cooperative relations between both sides have been further developed. Recent years have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges, close economic and trade cooperation, increased consultation and coordination in the international affairs and sound momentum of development in bilateral relations. China deems Djibouti a reliable friend, attaches great importance to strengthening the traditional friendship with Djibouti and will work with Djibouti to jointly push for continuous development of bilateral relations. Wu noted that the NPC of China would like to further enhance friendly exchanges with the Djiboutian parliament and conduct high-level exchanges and cooperation in various areas. Both sides should give play to the role of groups of friendship, learn from each other, build up understanding and friendship and contribute to promoting all-round development of bilateral relations. Dileita highly appreciated the great achievements in China's economic and social development and made positive comments on China's policy towards Africa and bilateral relations. He added that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between both sides 26 years ago, China has offered a lot of disinterested assistance to Djibouti, which has played an important role for Djibouti's economic and social development. The Djiboutian government and its people highly appreciate and sincerely thank for these efforts by China. Djibouti gives top priority to developing comprehensive friendly cooperative relations with China and will unswervingly pursue the one-China policy and support China's grand cause of peaceful reunification.
