| Yang Jiechi Welcomes UN Security Council Resolution to Send Peacekeeping Force to Darfur |

On August 1, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi welcomed the adoption by the UN Security Council on July 31 of the Resolution 1769 authorizing a joint African Union-United Nations peacekeeping force in Darfur, Sudan. Yang said the move by the UN is worth welcoming by the international community, as it is helpful to accelerating the local political process. He also said the sending of a UN-African Union peacekeeping force to Darfur is conducive to pushing all the parties involved in the conflict to reach and implement the peace agreements and finally obtain a lasting peace in the troubled area.
