China-Africa NGO Seminar

The Seminar on the Status and Role of China-Africa Non-Government Organizations in Implementing UN Millennium Development Goals was successfully held at Jinhua, Zhejiang, on 14th to 15th July 2010. The seminar was jointly held by the Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University under the auspices of China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE). Mr. Li Jinjun, executive vice president of CNIE, Mr. Wu Fengmin, president of Zhejiang Normal University, Mr. Shu Zhan, ambassador of the Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and Mr. Liu Hongwu, president of Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University were present at the opening ceremony and gave speeches respectively.

 

 

More than 60 participants attended the event, including representatives from Chinese NGOs such as All-China Environment Federation, China Education Association for International Exchange, China Association for Science and Technology and CNIE, and from African NGOs, such as Zimbabwe New Hope Fund, Kenya Community Development Foundation, Social Justice Promotion Association of South Africa, Action Organization for Security Awareness of Nigeria,Zambia National Education Coalition, Sudanese Red Crescent as well as domestic and international academics from Institutes of African Studies including Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University, Center of African Studies of Yunnan University, Economic Analysis and Research Center of University of Pretoria, South Africa.

 

The participants carried out in-depth discussions on three topics: Practice and Experience in the Development and Administration of China-Africa Non-Government Organizations; Practice and Experience of China-Africa Non-Government Organizations in Addressing Issues of Food Security, Poverty Alleviation, Women and Children, Education, Sanitation, and Climate; and How to Strengthen Cooperation between Chinese and African Non-Government Organizations in Implementing the UN Millennium Development Goals.
