Chinese Embassy to Ghana and Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly held a Reception and Photo Exhibition in Accra to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of China-Ghana Diplomatic Relations on 16th July 2010. Mr Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs , Mr Ikeng, cabinet secretary, officials of different departments of the Ghanaian government, representatives of diplomatic missions, friends from all circles and overseas Chinese and Chinese-fund companies in Ghana, totaling 300 people participated in the event. Mr Zhao Shiren, charge d'affaires, a.i., and Minister Mumuni gave speeches respectively at the opening ceremony.

Mr Zhao Shiren reviewed with deep feeling the long history of China-Ghana relations and glorious path of development. He paid high tribute to the cherished memories of leaders of the elder generation of China and Ghana who established the traditional China-Ghana friendship and spoke highly of the fruitful achievements in the fields of politics, economy and trade, culture, education, health and people-to-people diplomacy etc. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ghanaian government, friends from all circles and overseas Chinese in Ghana for their great efforts and positive contributions to the development of China-Ghana relations.Mr Zhao said 50 years seemed to have passed before our eyes in an instant and while what has passed is gone, the future is still in our hands. At present, both China and Ghana are faced with the major tasks of developing our economies and improving people's wellbeing and there are great potential and new opportunities in China-Ghana relations. He hoped that the governments and peoples of the two nations would work together to expand and deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in different fields and bring benefits to the two peoples, pushing forward the bilateral relations to a new level and writing a new chapter of China-Ghana friendship.

Minister Mumuni said that China and Ghana shared similar historical experiences and held similar views and opinions on international issues. Over the 50 years since Ghana and China established diplomatic relations, several generations of leaders have kept close contact with each other. China-Ghana relations are becoming stronger and stronger. The two countries are coordinating well in international affairs and there are significant achievements in bilateral exchanges and cooperation. Mr Mumuni expressed his thanks to the Chinese government and people for providing Ghana with a lot of valuable assistance to its social and economic development. He said that a large number of well-known projects had become symbols of the close China-Ghana friendship, such as Ghana National Theatre, Afeifei Irrigation Project, office building of Ministry of National Defence and Bui Hydro Power Station that was under construction. He was looking forward to the early commencement of another China-aided project – office building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr Mumuni said that the Shanghai World Expo set up a new bridge for the friendly cooperation between China and Ghana. He hoped that both countries would take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations as a new starting point and the implementation of Action Plan 2010-2012 of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as an opportunity in developing China-Ghana relations so as to bring the bilateral relations and multi-lateral cooperation to a new height.

After the speeches, Mr Zhao Shiren and Minister Mumuni moved their presence to the opening ceremony of the Photo Exhibition, jointly held by Chinese embassy to Ghana, Accra Bureau of Xinhua News Agency with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of News of Ghana. Over 120 photos in the exhibition showcased the friendly relations of China and Ghana in different periods of time, as well as the fruitful achievements of China-Ghana cooperation in various fields and the great momentum and glorious prospect of the bilateral relations.
