Wang Yi Meets with Mulatu Teshome, Former President and Special Envoy of Prime Minister of Ethiopia
On October 30, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Mulatu Teshome, former President and Special Envoy of Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Wang Yi asked Mulatu Teshome to convey the Chinese leaders' greetings to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, welcomed Mulatu Teshome's visit to China as a special envoy of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, and appreciated his positive contributions to promoting China-Ethiopia friendship and the development of China-Africa relations over a long period. Wang Yi said, Ethiopia is a major African country and an important emerging market economy. China is pleased to see Ethiopia actively exploring national development path and making important achievements in economic and social construction. The two sides should enhance political mutual trust, firmly support each other on issues involving respective core interests, and deepen practical economic cooperation. The Chinese side will encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Ethiopia, and advance cooperation in such areas as infrastructure construction. Both sides should step up coordination on international and regional affairs and jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries.
Mulatu Teshome conveyed Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali's greetings to the Chinese leaders. Mulatu Teshome said, the Ethiopian government attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China and sincerely thanks China for its long-term assistance to Ethiopia's economic development. The Ethiopian side hopes to work with China to accelerate the implementation of the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhance exchanges and learning in experience of state governance and administration, comprehensively promote practical cooperation in various fields, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
