China's Huawei to promote smart cities in Africa

NAIROBI, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies is keen to promote smart cities in Africa in order to boost environmental sustainability, an official said on Sunday.   Adam Lane, senior director of public affairs at Huawei Technologies (Kenya) Co., Ltd. told Xinhua in Nairobi that African cities can adopt modern technology in the area of water and energy use, communications, security and safety improvement.

Chinese mining firm to support more small-holder farmers in Zambia

LUANSHYA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese-owned mining firm in Zambia, China Non-ferrous Metal Company Luanshya Copper Mine (CLM), will next year consider supporting over 200 small-scale farmers.   The move is a way of supplementing government's efforts to diversify into agricultural sector for increased food production, a spokesperson said on Saturday.

China hands over 104 mln USD hospital to Kenya

NAIROBI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday handed over a 10.5 billion Kenyan shillings (104 million U.S. dollars) hospital to Kenyan authorities.   Guo Ce, economic and commercial counselor of Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said during the handover ceremony in Nairobi that the Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital is the first hospital project fully financed by Chinese concessional loan.

BRI, FOCAC nurture Africa's aspirations for inclusive, sustainable growth

LUSAKA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) nurture Africans' aspiration for an inclusive growth and sustainable development while maintaining the ideals of pan-Africanism and Africa's renaissance, local experts said here on Thursday.   The BRI offers great opportunities for infrastructure development and investment opportunities in over 60 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa, Bernadette Deka-Zulu, executive director of the Policy Monitoring and Research Center (PMRC), said during the ongoing Africa-China Think Tank Forum that is taking place in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.
