Zambian local official hails Chinese contractor's road works
CHONGWE, Zambia, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- A Zambian local official said that the Chinese contractor AVIC International's road works in Chongwe district were changing the face of the district.
Chongwe municipal council executive mayor, Geoffrey Chumbwe hailed the contractor for showing commitment in carrying out road projects in Chongwe district, a town in Lusaka province of Zambia.
He described the Chinese company as a committed partner in infrastructure development. The government official made the remarks after visiting the site at where the company has just commenced a 6.2 km road project of the township roads in Chongwe central ward.
The government official observed that, the roads in the Central business district which houses key government institutions such as the district hospital, district administration and the civic center were in a deplorable state and needed to be upgraded.
"The upgrade of the roads in the central ward will help improve commerce as farmers and the residents would find it easy to distribute and access agriculture produce."
"Chongwe is an agriculture community which heavily relies on a good raid network to enhance its activities. This project could not have come at a better time than this when we want to diversify into agriculture as a country, " the government official said in an interview on Wednesday.
The government official said that AVIC International had done other roads in the country and the works were of high quality. According to him, there was enough assurance that, the upgrade of township roads in and around the Central Business District would also be of high quality.
He further observed that, the Zambia-China relationship had continued to exhibit a win-win situation.
He said he was thankful to the Zambian government for engaging a reputable contractor to carry out the task of upgrading the roads in Chongwe district.
