Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundations' anti COVID-19 medical supplies arrive in South Sudan
On March 24, the anti COVID-19 medical supplies donated by the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation to South Sudan arrived at Juba International Airport. The materials include 100,000 masks, 20,000 testing kits, 1,000 protective suits and face shields, which will be used for the prevention and control of the COVID-19. H. E. Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Hua Ning, South Sudan's Health Minister Hon. Elizabeth Acuei Yol, Deputy Foreign Minister Hon. Deng Dau Deng and Undersectrary of Ministry of Health Dr. Makur attended the handover ceremony at the airport. Before receiving the donations, Ambassador Hua met with South Sudanese officials.
Health Minister Elizabeth and Deputy Foreign Minister Dau expressed their appreciation to the Chinese government and enterprises for their timely assistance at the critical moment of epidemic prevention in South Sudan. They said that under the leadership of President Kiir, the Government of South Sudan, has fully engaged in emergency preparedness on the COVID-19 by setting up a high-level special working team and adopting a series of response measures. The materials donated by Jack Ma and Alibaba foundations are beautiful gifts from China. It is the first batch of international assistance received by the Government of South Sudan, which will meet the urgent medical needs of South Sudan, enhance the capacity and confidence of South Sudan in fighting against the virus. Chinese enterprises organized the donation efficiently with relative partners, which shows their strength and social responsibility. The Government of South Sudan will distribute these valuable materials properly. South Sudan and China will work together to battle the COVID-19.
Ambassador Hua said that under President Xi's personal command, the Chinese Government and people have made painstaking efforts to effectively control the domestic epidemic. At the same time, we also face the challenge of imported cases. In response to the global expansion of COVID-19, China has actively carried out international cooperation, shared first-hand practice and experience, donated in WHO's corona fund for global epidemic intervention, sent medical teams and provided material assistance to many countries. China pays close attention to the epidemic situation in African countries including South Sudan, and supported relevant countries through various channels. We understand and respect the necessary measures taken by South Sudan to prevent the epidemic recently. We will make comprehensive use of both government and private resources to assist South Sudan within our capabilities to tackle the virus and join hands in building a community of human health.
