Namibian parliament commends China's donation of facilities
WINDHOEK, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's National Assembly Speaker Peter Katjavivi Thursday commissioned a parliamentary bus as well as a refurbished conference hall, following a generous donation by the Chinese government.
Katjavivi said at the handover event in Windhoek that the donation came about as a result of discussions between himself and the leaders of China's National People's Congress (NPC) last year.
"I must credit Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, who kindly offered us the donation," he added.
Katjavivi said the donation demonstrates the strong bond between the two parliamentary institutions and the overall relationship between the two countries.
Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Zhang Yiming said that the ceremony is a follow-up of Li's successful visit in May last year.
"We are glad to see that just after one year, China has managed to honor its promise on the two projects which highlight our vivid support to Namibia's parliament and its people," he said.
Zhang reassured the Namibian government officials and the people, that China will remain one of their reliable and all-weather partners and friends in the socio-economic development.
