About 1000 participants including officials from Zambia Governmental, Police Service and correctional departments, representatives from AVIC International, local residents and media friends were also present.
H.E. President Lungu said that the Security Wing Project is committed to changing the current deplorable state of most police infrastructure. In the future, the government will also work hard to solve the housing problem of teachers and other public servants. The police and other public personnel made an important contribution to the peaceful and stable development of the country with their loyalty and dedication. President Lungu hopes that the correctional officials and Police officers will continue to work hard to maintain the local and national security and peaceful development environment, and at the same time urge all departments to strengthen capatity building and contribute to food security. President Lungu expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for its strong support in the development of Zambia and expressed satisfaction with the advanced delivery of the Project by AVIC International.
In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Li said that Zambia enjoys a good reputation as the Oasis of Peace in southern Africa. The peace and stability of the country cannot be achieved and maintained without the efforts of civil officials such as the law enforcement forces. The implementation of the housing project will greatly improve the standard of living of the police officers, and is of great significance to motivate their work enthusiasm and maintain the social stability. In recent years, under the leadership of H.E. President Lungu, with a stable political situation, harmonious society, steady economic growth, and progressive business environment, Zambia has become one of the most popular investment destinations in Africa for Chinese enterprises. During Jan-Apr of 2020, the FDI from China to Zambia reached 195 million USD, ranking the first in all African Countries. China is willing to strength and pursue win-win cooperation. China and Zambia are now facing the COVID-19 pandemic challenge. China will always remember the invaluable support Zambia gave us at the height of our battle against the corona virus started from end of last year to early this year. In return, when Zambia was struck by the virus, China was among the first countries to rush in with assistance and has since stood firm with the Zambia people. China will never waver in its determination to pursue greater solidarity and cooperation with Zambia. Both China and Zambia face the formidable task of combating the virus while stabilizing the economy and protecting people's livelihoods. China will continue to support Zambia to combat Corvid-19 by providing medical supplies, sending medical expert team, and Zambia will be among the first to benefit once the development and deployment of Covid-19 vaccine is completed. China will cancel the debt of Zambia to China in the form of interest-free government loans that are to be matured by the end of 2020 and further extend the period of debt suspension for Zambia from May 1 to the end of 2020, to help Zambia tide over the current difficulty. Ambassador Li Jie's speech won long and warm applauses from the people present.
