On 19th March 2020, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Dr. Zhao Yanbo gave a telephone interview to Duma FM during the evening rush hour, briefing the audience on the latest updates on China's fight against COVID-19 and international cooperation in response to the epidemic.

Ambassador Zhao said that thanks to arduous efforts, the situation of epidemic prevention and control in China continues to improve. Wuhan city, the worst-hit area, reported zero new confirmed case, marking a notable first in the months-long battle with the virus. Wuhan also started to ease measures to allow residents in zero-infection communities to go out of their apartments and conduct personal activities inside the community, but separately in time and buildings. There were no new domestic transmissions in Hubei except Wuhan for two weeks, and no new domestic transmissions in other provinces of China for one week. China is now focusing on the importation of cases from overseas just like Botswana. Ambassador Zhao said that no new cases in Wuhan is great news which means we already begin to see the dawn of final victory. The 21 Botswana students at 11 different universities in Wuhan are safe and sound, with sufficient medical materials and daily necessities. There are also online courses for them to continue with their study and relieve their anxiety. Their campus life will get back to normal soon, and their parents can be at ease.

Ambassador Zhao pointed out that since the outbreak, the Chinese side has shared all we know about the pandemic with Africa, and done our best to support and help these countries and regional organizations in accordance with their needs. So far, China has provided medical assistance such as testing kits to the African Union, shared diagnosis and treatment plan, and held an online video conference with Africa CDC and African countries including Botswana. while making all-out efforts at home, China will continue to deepen cooperation with African countries in pandemic control and treatment so as to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

This is the third interview Ambassador Zhao gave to Duma FM on China's fight against COVID-19.
