Africa: China-Africa Press Exchange Centre On Cards

Beijing - CHINA has promised to set up a "China-Africa Press Exchange Centre" in Beijing soon.

The centre is expected to encourage exchanges and visits between Chinese and African media houses. The decision will enable some journalists from Africa to spend some specified time in China, covering issues related to economy and development issues.

Opening the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) meeting in Beijing last week, China's President Mr Hu Jintao said his country supports exchange of correspondents by media organizations of the two sides.

China will also continue implementing the China-Africa Joint Research and Exchange Plan, to sponsor 100 programmes for research, exchange and cooperation by academic institutions and scholars of the two sides.

According to Chinese Embassy official in Dar es Salaam Mr Huang Wei, China is always committed to cooperating with African countries, to make sure that there is durable peace and common prosperity among its people. Recently, China invited over twenty journalists from Africa for a two-week study programme that took them to Shangai, Suzhou, Chanchan, and Beijing cities.

The journalists came from Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Liberia, Central Africa Republic, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
