  【Official Name】Togolese Republic

  【Area】56,785 k㎡

  【Population】7.8 million (2017). There are 41 ethnic groups in Togo. Major ethnics in the south include Ewe (22% of the total population) and Mina peoples (6%). Akposso, Tchamba and other groups in the center make up 33% of the population. The Kabye people in the north account for 13% of the population. The official language is French. Ewe and Kabiye are widely spoken indigenous languages. About 70% of the population are adherents of indigenous beliefs, 20% are Christian and 10% are Muslim.

  【Capital】Lomé with a population of 1.57 million and average annualtemperature of 27℃.

  【Head of State】President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé took office in May 2005 and was re-elected for another two terms in March 2010 and April 2015.

  【Geography and Climate】Togo is located in western Africa and bordered by the Gulf of Guinea to the south, Benin to the east, Ghana to the west and Burkina Faso to the north, with a coastline of 56 km. The southern area has a tropical rainforest climate and the north a tropical savanna climate. Average annual temperature along the coast is 27℃, and the north is 30℃.
