  【Official Name】Republic of Djibouti

  【Area】23,200 k㎡

  【Population】940,000. The population are mainly composed of Issa and Afar. The Issa ethnic group accounts for 50% of the population and speak Somali; the Afar group account for about 40% and speaks Afar language. There are also a small number of Arabs and Europeans. The official languages are French and Arabic, and the main ethnic languages are Afar and Somali. Islam the state religion. 94% of the residents are Muslim (Sunni) and the rest are Christians.

  【Capital】Djibouti with a population of about 620,000. The average temperature in the hot season (from April to October) is 31 to 41℃, and the average temperature in the cool season (from November to March) is 23 to 29℃.

  【Head of State】President Ismail Omar Guelleh took office in April 1999 and was reelected three times in April 2005, April 2011 and April 2016.

  【Geography and Climate】Located on the west bank of the Gulf of Aden in the northeastern part of Africa, Djibouti overlooks the Bab al-Mandab Strait that connects the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. It borders Somalia to the southeast, Eritrea to the north, and Ethiopia to the west, southwest, and south. The land boundary is 520 km long and the coastline is 372 km long. The coastal plains and plateaus are mainly tropical desert climates, with high temperature and little rain all year round. The mainland is dominated by plateaus and mountains, which belongs to a tropical savanna climate. The year is divided into cool and hot seasons. From April to Octoberis the hot season, with an average temperature of 37℃ and high temperatures of 45℃ or above; from November to March is the cool season with an average temperature of 27℃.
