  【Official Name】Gabonese Republic

  【Area】268,000 k㎡

  【Population】1.76 million (2016). There are more than 40 ethnic groups, the largest ones being the Fang (about 40% of the country’s whole population) and the Bapunu (22%). The official language is French. Other languages include Fang, Myene and Bateke. 50% of residents believe in Catholicism; 20% believe in Protestantism; 10% believe in Islamism; and the rest believe in indigenous religions.

  【Capital】Libreville, with a population of approximately 799,000 (2015), is a national political, economic, and cultural center and major port. The highest temperature is 31℃ (January) and the lowest temperature is 20℃ (July).

  【Geography and Climate】Located in central Africa, Gabon spreads across the equator and borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Congo to the east and south, and Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea to the north. The coastline is 800 km long. It has a typical tropical rainforest climate, with high temperatures and heavy rain throughout the year, and an average annual temperature of 26℃.
