　　【Population】14.3 million (2016). The vast majority of the residents are Somalis, and they can be divided into two major ethnic groups: Samaale and Sab. The Samaale people account for more than 80% of the national population. The official languages are Somali and Arabic. Islam is the national religion, and Muslims make up 99 % of the total population.

　　【Capital】Mogadishu with a population of 2.14 million (2016). The average temperature in hot season is 26 to 32℃ and that in cool season is 23 to 28℃.

　　【Head of State】President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed was elected on 8 February 2017 and sworn in on 22 February.

　　【Holidays】Independence Day (26 June) (Independence of the north of Somalia); National Day (1 July) (Independence of the south of Somalia, and the north and the south merged to form the Federal Republic of Somalia on the same day)

　　【Geography and Climate】Located in the easternmost Somali Peninsula on the African continent, it is bordered by the Gulf of Aden in the north, the Indian Ocean in the east and south, Kenya and Ethiopia in the west and Djibouti in the northwest. The coastline is 3,300 km long. Most areas have tropical desert climate, and the southwest region is dry and has tropical savanna climate, with high temperature and little rain all year round.
