  【Official Name】Republic of Ghana

  【Area】238,537 k㎡

  【Population】28.8 million (2017). There are four main ethnic groups: the Akans (52.4%), the Mossi-Dagomba (15.8%), the Ewe (11.9%) and the Ga-Adangbe (7.8%). The official Language is English. Besides, there are ethnic languages such as Ewe, Fante and Hausa. 69% of the residents believe in Christianity, 15.6% in Islam, and 8.5% practices traditional faiths.

  【Capital】Accra with a population of 2.34 million. The highest temperature is 23 to 31℃ (March and April), and the lowest is 22 to 27℃ (August).

  【Head of State】President Nana Akufo-Addo assumed office in January2017.

  【Holiday】Independence Day (March 6 ); Republic Day (July 1)

  【Geography and Climate】 Located in western Africa, Ghana lies on the northern shore of the Gulf of Guinea, and borders Côte d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Atlantic to the south. The coastline extends about 562 km. The coastal plains and the Ashanti plateau in the southwest have a tropical rainforest climate, and the Volta basin and northern plateaus have a tropical savanna climate. April to September is the rainy season and November to April is the dry season. Precipitation varies greatly from place to place. The average annual rainfall is 2,180mm in the southwest and 1,000mm in the north.
