  【Official Name】Republic of Uganda

  【Area】241,550 k㎡

  【Population】42.9 million (2017). There are about 65 ethnic groups in Uganda that can beclassified into four broad linguistic groups: Bantu, Nile, Nile-Semitic and Sudanese,each can be sub-divided into several ethnic groups. The official languages are English and Swahili, and Luganda and other local languages are commonly used. Religious beliefs mainly are Catholicism (45% of the total population), Protestantism (40%), Islam (11%), and the rest believe in Eastern Orthodoxy and fetishism.

  【Capital】Kampala, with a population of 1.66 million. The average annual temperature is about 23℃. The rainy season is April, May, September and October, the other months are dry season.

  【Head of State】President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (since 1986)

  【Geography and Climate】Uganda is a land-locked country located in eastern Africa along the equator. It borders Kenya to the east, Tanzania and Rwanda to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west and South Sudan to the north. Most of the territory is plateau with an altitude of over 1,200 meters, with rolling hills and mountains. Uganda is home to the west branch of the Great Rift Valley and the numerous lakes at the bottom of the valley. The country’s administrative territory covers nearly half of the surface area of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake(about 67,000 km2) and known for being the origin of the Nile river. The country has a mild tropical savanna climate, with an averagetemperature of around 22℃ and abundant rainfall.
